The International School of Toulouse (IST) opened in September 1999
for pupils of all nationalities aged 4 to 18. This new school has
been purpose-built to the highest specification on an open site in
Colomiers, on the western edge of Toulouse. The secondary and primary
sections are housed in separate 'wings' and linked by a central administrative
rotunda, which provides a striking main entrance to the school. The
buildings feature a range of contemporary facilities. In all areas
of the school, particular emphasis is placed on the creative and sophisticated
use of communications technology - all teaching rooms are networked
for individual laptop computer use, and pupils from the age of seven
upwards work with them.
Programmes of study at International School of Toulouse are based
on the English National Curriculum, the IPC and enhanced by an international
perspective. In the secondary school, students are prepared for
the IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme.
The International School of Toulouse aims to provide an overtly
positive and supportive learning environment. With a commitment
to the pursuit of academic excellence and attaching a high value
to creativity, imagination and the quest for knowledge and understanding,
the school encourages all students to discover and enjoy their individual
strengths and capacities. From the start of school, a high priority
is given to developing fluency in both English and French to promote
academic achievement and participation in the global community.
Music has a particularly high profile in the International School
of Toulouse. It is seen as an integral part of the curriculum and
taught by specialist teachers from Reception upwards. A wealth of
opportunities is available for pupils to utilize their musical ability
in extra-curricular clubs and performances. Individual tuition is
also available on a wide range of instruments.
