The Ecole Active Bilingue Jeannine Manuel , Ecole Active Bilingue
J.M., founded in 1954, is a private co-educational college preparatory
day-school with the main section in Paris and another near Lille,
subsidized by the State (by 'contrat d'association'). It is recognized
by UNESCO as an 'associated school'.
The aim of the Ecole Active Bilingue Jeannine Manuel is to develop
bilingualism and biculturalism. In the primary classes, besides
the French national programme, English is obligatory for all students.
It is taught as a foreign language and as a mother tongue. Japanese
is begun at primary level and continued through secondary level.
In secondary classes, French is the working language. English is
taught as a foreign language or a mother tongue by level of proficiency.
Science, history and geography are taught in English or French.
For those students wishing to enter American universities, the College
Board exams (SAT, Achievement Tests, PSAT) are administered.
Adaptation classes for non-French students at Ecole Active Bilingue
Jeannine Manuel run parallel with regular French classes, with emphasis
on the teaching of French.
All teachers at Ecole Active Bilingue Jeannine Manuel , French
and foreign, are qualified, certified teachers. The French Baccalauréat,
the French Baccalauréat with 'Option Internationale', and
the International Baccalaureate are the final exams for the school.
Computer science classes are offered.
The Ecole Active Bilingue Jeannine Manuel day is from 08:30 to
17:00, Monday to Friday, with Wednesday afternoon free in the primary
and middle schools. Hot meals are served daily. There is also a
cafeteria service. Located in the centre of Paris, the school has
modern premises with many facilities (gymnasium, science laboratories,
library, playground, etc.) The school has a new centre near Lille
