Part of a state-sponsored French international school, the English-speaking
section of the Cité Scolaire Internationale de Lyon welcomes
children with an appropriate level of English (native or excellent
bilingual) who can benefit from being integrated into the French public
system.
The Anglophone Section of the Cité Scolaire Internationale
de Lyon is sponsored by a non-profit parents' association in accordance
with guidelines established by the French Ministry of Education
and is under the authority of the proviseur (headteacher) of the
Lycée. The Cité Scolaire Internationale de Lyon is
fully accredited by the French Ministry of National Education. The
academic programme follows the standard national curriculum of France
at all levels. For new students, this programme can be modified
with a special intensive French integration programme where French
is taught as a foreign language. In addition, students follow six
hours of instruction per week (eight hours for the final two years)
in English (language, literature, history and geography) taught
at native-speaker level. Students prepare for British, American
and French examinations. Separate German, Italian, Polish, Japanese
and Spanish sections also exist. Students may prepare for the GCSE,
SAT and Cambridge language examinations: First Certificate, Advanced,
Proficiency. The final diploma is the French Baccalauréat,
International Option, which assures university entrance into English-speaking
universities. The Section provides guidance for admissions into
universities in Europe, North America and all English-speaking countries
in general.
There are several extra-curricular activities run by Anglophone
Section staff at the Cité Scolaire Internationale de Lyon,
including Model United Nations, International Award Programme for
Young People (Duke of Edinburgh's Award), literary magazine, drama
and basketball clubs.
The English-speaking staff hold qualifications in their specialized
areas from American, British, or other home-country universities
and have had at least three years' teaching experience in those
home systems. The French programme is taught by certified French
teachers. The Section's student body is 60% French, 35% English-speaking
nationalities, and 5% other nationalities.
The Cité Scolaire Internationale de Lyon year begins on
September 3 and ends on June 30, with ten-day holidays in November
and approximately two weeks at Christmas, in late February and in
late April. The school day begins at 08:00 and finishes at 17:30
(for middle school it is 08:50-16:30); no classes are held on Saturday.
