Bilingual International School of Strasbourg
The Bilingual International School of Strasbourg, (BISS) is the
successor to the International School at Lucie Berger (ISLB), which
was set up two years ago to provide an international-type education
for the children of non-French expatriates living in the north Alsace
area. It benefits from the financial security recently developed
from two local educational foundations. Bilingual International
School of Strasbourg, (BISS) is based in the city of Strasbourg,
a centre of European institutions and expanding industrial, cultural,
educational and cosmopolitan significance. Bilingual International
School of Strasbourg, (BISS) is housed on the Lucie Berger campus,
a semi-private French primary school located near the city centre
and the historic Petite France district. The Bilingual International
School of Strasbourg, (BISS) primary (elementary) school is divided
into two classes. Class I groups children in grades 1 and 2 (age
approximately 6-8), and Class II covers grades 3 through 5. The
curriculum follows the enquiry and critical-thinking based philosophy
of the International Baccalaureate PYP (Primary years Programme),
with the additional avowed aim of enabling the student to operate
successfully in a bilingual English-French environment. The ultimate
goal is to offer a full educational programme, including the IB.
As such it is planned to extend the educational programme into Middle
School in school year 2006-7. Students of the school benefit from
all the educational facilities (e.g. science & computer labs), physical
education, recreational, extra-curricular and security advantages
of an old- established and very well-respected French educational
institution. The school week is Monday through Friday. Classes begin
at 08:15 and finish at 16:00 (12:30 on Wednesdays). There is a two-hour
lunch period (except Wednesday). Children may opt to have lunch
at the Lucie Berger school cafeteria or go home. After-school care
is available until 18:00.
